AN Appleton school has smashed its fundraising record after helping to buy a mini bus for hearing impaired students in Malawi.

This is thanks to the generous families of St Monica’s Catholic Primary School who supported the youngsters during their sponsored walk for the cause.

As well as the walk, the children came up with their own fundraising ideas to help the school reach its record-breaking target.

St Monica’s will be handing over a cheque worth £1,895.15 which will help to buy the mini bus in Malawi.

Deputy headteacher, Jessica Pearson, said: “We were particularly grateful for the kindness of the families at a time when so many are under such financial pressure.

“Yet again we’ve shown ourselves to be a little School with a great big heart.”

The sound of playtime has been transformed at St Monica’s with the installation of their new music area.

The music area is part of a wider project to make playtime at St. Monica’s as creative and exciting as possible.

So far, the drums and metallophone have proved very popular with the budding musicians.

The children are also enjoying a Forest School area, and the Friends of St. Monica’s group are planning on providing dens to make the most of the beautiful woodland surrounding to the school field.
