AFTER ‘love at first sight’, a Winwick family could not wait to bring their new pet home – an Indian runner duck.
Puddles was hatched at Kim Dunn’s friend’s farm last July.
He was named Puddles by his four-year-old owner, Hallie Dunn, as it was a rainy day.
“The day after he hatched, Hallie and I went to collect him and it was love at first site,” said Hallie’s mum, Kim Dunn.
Indian runner ducks are a domestic duck breed and are ‘extremely social’ and friendly, and can even be trained.
Puddles loves to play in the garden with his two owners, Hallie and Harper, 6, and ‘hangs out’ in their playhouse and watches them on the swings.
The bird even played in the girl’s paddling pool last summer.
Kim added: “The girls treat him like a best friend.
“He is very easy to look after.”
As Puddles is an Indian runner duck, he doesn’t require a large pool or pond – instead just a ‘decent’ sized tub for him to splash around in and dunk his head.
His favourite things to eat are meal worms and peas.
He is very cheeky and will even knock on the back door with his beak if he can see the family inside.
