THREE Warrington primary schools have received a boost for STEM learning thanks to a competition from one of the town’s biggest employers.

The new Amazon delivery station in Great Sankey recently hosted a competition for the schools to design a banner for the new site.

Chapelford Village Primary, Park Road Primary in Great Sankey and Oakwood Avenue Primary in Padgate took part, supported by Amazon team members.

As part of the competition, the schools each received Robotic STEM kits – science, technology, engineering, and mathematics – with the winning school also receiving £1,000.

Simon Magee, delivery station manager at Amazon Warrington, said: “We were very impressed with all three designs, and it was not an easy task picking the winning banner.

“On behalf of the Amazon team in Warrington, I would like to thank the schools for participating and we hope they enjoyed the competition.”

Cllr Cathy Mitchell, deputy leader of Warrington Borough Council, spoke of her delight to be asked to help judge the competition.

“It was really difficult to choose, as the children’s pictures showed a lot of imagination – they were brilliant,” she commented.

“I also enjoyed meeting the team, who showed me around the new site.”

Park Road Primary School teacher Sophie Oakes added: “The pupils had a wonderful time designing the banner, and it is great to get them involved with businesses in our community.

“A big thanks must go to Simon and the team for the STEM kits and the donation – it is much appreciated.”

The donation and STEM kits were made as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its operating locations in the UK.

Amazon is also providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses, as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering more than five million healthy breakfasts in England.
