A NEW patisserie is set to open in Warrington town centre.

Grand Patisserie is expected to move into part of the former Yorkshire Bank branch on Buttermarket Street, which closed in 2020.

The plans have been revealed in an application for planning permission lodged with Warrington Borough Council, which include new cladding at the ground level and a retractable awning.

Submission documents stated: “The ground floor of the former Yorkshire Bank building is being divided into two as by the present owner.

“The design of the North facing street elevations of the pedestrianised Buttermarket Street have a loose neo classical character above the ground floor.

“As a general rule, all the shopfronts along the street have a bold and deep fascia under which are large shop windows.

“They provide a lively and vibrant eye level perimeter to what is clearly a town centre environment.

“The proposed Grand Patisserie will add to this vibrancy, both by the activity it will generate and the exiting appearance of the proposed over cladding of the brickwork like the characteristics of the adjacent large shop windows.

“We believe that this proposal does not adversely affect the attractiveness of the street’s architecture, but does enhance the character of the town centre shopping function.”

Opening hours of 9am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 11am on Sundays and bank holidays, are stated in the application.

Separate schemes have proposed a taxi office and apartments in the remainder of the building.
