THE new head of a Westbrook school is reflecting on his first term in charge.

Paul Stanley took over at St Philip’s Westbrook in September after a long career across the north west.

After a term in the role Mr Stanley reflected on his experience so far.

He said: "The children are a delight. They are hard-working, well-behaved, polite, caring and well-rounded- in short, a pleasure to teach.

"The staff’s level of commitment and willingness to go the extra mile is outstanding. They offer a high quality of education which is varied and exciting. I feel privileged to work with them.

"The facilities offered by the building are wonderful and I am proud to be leading this lovely school."

Paul trained at St Martin’s, Lancaster which provided a school-based training in the Cumbria area and he thoroughly enjoyed those years.

He began his career in Oldham and became a senior leader after a couple of years. He moved to Broadway Primary school in Lancashire as deputy head teacher and later became the head of the school in 2007 when the head teacher retired. During this time Paul also served as schools adviser for Lancashire County Council. He later moved to Rochdale to become head of a much larger school.

Having been born and raised in Wavertree, Liverpool, he wanted to move his family closer to home and became trust education director with Liverpool Diocese School’s Trust but he missed school and so, when he saw the head of St Philip’s advertised he was excited to apply.

Away from school, Mr Stanley enjoys walking, especially with his dog, Tilly, a miniature Schnauzer. He also enjoys golf and is working on improving his skills. He is a Liverpool fan.

He added: "I am excited about the future at St Philip’s and all I know we will achieve together."
