THE Warrington Wolves Foundation has been handed a Christmas cash boost as part of a Guardian giveaway.

Our parent company’s charitable arm, The Gannett Foundation, is providing £20,000 in cash to support charities across the north west as part of a Cash for Charities appeal, and we asked readers to help us decide where this money should be spent.

After being inundated with nominations the Wolves Foundation was chosen as the organisation to put forward from our town along with seven others in the region.

Readers were invited to collect tokens printed inside the Guardian which then had to be sent to collection points across the town.

The totals were added together to work out how the money should be divided. The more tokens received, the more money the charity would benefit from.

As a result, the Wolves Foundation is now being presented with £954.06.

Winning the highest amount of the funding was Autism Together, which secured £5,045.94.

Lee Mitchell, from the foundation, said: “Thank you again to Warrington Guardian readers for their support.

“The money will support us running a number of holiday activities which are targeted at children who are on free school meals. It means we can run all the holiday sessions, provide lots of physical activity and healthy snacks and meals to all who attend.”
