A SECOND flood alert in two days has been issued in areas of Warrington close to the River Mersey.

Declared by the Government-run Flood Information Service, a flood alert warns that ‘flooding is possible’ and that residents in highlighted areas should ‘be prepared’ for the possibility.

It comes as the UK faces the impact of Storm Barra, which is widely expected to bring rain and strong winds of around 45 to 50mph.

Areas at risk of flooding include Fiddlers Ferry, Eastford Road, Arpley Bridge, Knutsford Road, Howley, Kingsway North and Westy.

The alert reads: “This flood alert has been issued due to the high tide forecast on December 7.

“Flooding is possible at low lying land and roads at Fiddlers Ferry, Eastford Road and Arpley Bridge.

Warrington Guardian:

“It is possible that river levels may affect Arpley Road under the railway bridge between 2.30pm and 3pm.

“River levels at Fiddlers Ferry will peak at 6.20m, at Eastford Road at 6.36m and at Arpley Bridge at 6.41m.

“High tides are also expected for tomorrow, Wednesday, December 8.

“Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue flood warnings if necessary.

“Please be aware of your surroundings and keep up to date with the current situation.”
