A FLOOD alert has been issued in low-lying parts of Warrington close to the River Mersey.
The Government-run Flood Information Service says that ‘flooding is possible’ and that people should ‘be prepared’ for the possibility.
The flood alert is in place now, with a high tide of the river being given as the reason for it being issued.
Areas at risk include Fiddlers Ferry, Eastford Road, Arpley Bridge, Knutsford Road, Howley, Kingsway North and Westy.
The alert reads: “This flood alert has been issued due to the high tide forecast from 12.15pm on December 6.
“Flooding is possible at low lying land and roads at Fiddlers Ferry, Eastford Road and Arpley Bridge.
“It is possible that river levels may affect Arpley Road under the railway bridge.
“River levels at Fiddlers Ferry will peak at 6.43m, Eastford Road at 6.60m and Arpley Bridge at 6.62m.
“We will continue to monitor levels closely.”
