A MAN who started an annual running event in memory of his sister has raised thousands of pounds for a charity close to his heart.

And this year, Tony Norton, 49, is hoping to raise even more funds for Diabetes UK with his ‘Dash4Diabetes’ event.

Tony’s sister, Debbie Mayers, was just 43 when she died after a lifelong battle with type one diabetes, having been diagnosed with the condition at the age of six.

Since her death, Tony, a qualified run leader across Warrington and Runcorn, has held Dash4Diabetes for seven years – fundraising and raising awareness of diabetes.

The number of people taking part has risen each year, with almost 150 people involved in the event last year – including runners from France, Canada and America.

This year’s event will take place from December 25 to January 25 which marks the time period that Tony had to say goodbye to Debbie.

Tony said: “Run, walk, or crawl 5k on your own or come to the park run.
