CONTROVERSIAL plans to build 27 new homes on farmland bordering the M62 look set to be approved.

An application for planning permission seeks consent for the development off Mill Lane in Houghton Green.

Warrington Guardian:

How the development could look

Warrington Borough Council's development management committee is set to decide on the fate of the proposals during a Town Hall meeting next Thursday, November 11.

And members have been recommended to approve the submission, subject to conditions.

Scores of objections, including from ward councillors and Winwick Parish Council, have been lodged against the application by members of the public.

But a report by WBC officers stated: "The proposed development would result in the delivery of new homes to meet the needs of Warrington’s population in compliance with adopted core strategy policies and would reuse and make more efficient use of land within the urban area.

"Benefits of granting permission, including the delivery of new housing and the policy compliant delivery of affordable housing, would outweigh the adverse effects and where necessary conditions have been attached to mitigate adverse effects.

"The granting of outline planning permission subject to conditions is therefore recommended."

Surrey-based developer L2 Property Ltd's plans comprise of 15 three-storey townhouses and 12 two-storey demi-detached homes, with a similar proposal having been scrapped in February.

Previously home to White House Farm, the site was cleared in the 1970s in order to make way for the motorway.

Villagers have raised concerns over what has been dubbed the ‘Fortress Development’ due to its proximity to the motorway and a major high pressure gas pipe, with worries over air and noise pollution.

They also say the nature of the homes will ‘destroy the character of the village’ and result in an increase in traffic.
