WORK on the transformation of a former social club site in Latchford is well under way.

More than 40 affordable homes are being built on the former Richmond's Club.

Weaver Vale Housing Trust is creating 26 one-bedroom and 15 two-bedroom apartments for affordable rent and work is due to be completed in March.

This week, Warrington South MP Andy Carter went along to see the progress.

He added: “It’s great to be able to welcome Weaver Vale Housing Trust to Warrington South, this is their first new build project in the constituency, delivering affordable and well-built new homes close to existing public transport links and re-using brownfield sites.

"It’s also good to see a local building firm, Thelwall based Lane End undertaking the construction of this project, providing local jobs during the construction phase as well as supporting apprenticeships for young people learning a trade. I’m looking forward to seeing the apartments being finished and the first families moving in.”

All the flats will be fitted with a modern kitchen and bathrooms. Each apartment has built-in sprinkler systems, smoke and heat detectors, while the main building features automatic opening vents and a modern fire alarm system.

There is also driveway provision and electric vehicle charging points to enable customers to transition to electric vehicle usage in the future, as well as a solar PV system to help reduce the impact of rising energy costs.

Jo Fallon, assistant director of development at Weaver Vale Housing trust, said: “We’re delighted to have been able to welcome MP Andy Carter to view the progress being made in delivering these much-needed affordable homes for Warrington.

“These apartments will help to address a key local housing need and create high-quality apartments built to the highest safety and green energy standards, ensuring that they are not just affordable to rent, but more affordable to run. This is particularly important to us at Weaver Vale Housing Trust as part of our commitment to building back fairer.”

The scheme is being built by Lane End Group on behalf of, Weaver Vale Housing Trust.

Richard Harrison, Lane End Group MD, said: “The Richmond Street development is a brilliant addition to the local community in Latchford, bringing vital, modern, safe, affordable housing to the area. The planning, attention to detail in the design and the high standard of build will ensure these apartments are not only stylish and comfortable but fit for the future.

“As a group, Lane End is committed to creating homes that enhance communities and this development is not only helping regenerate the local area with the addition of effective, quality homes, but is also included in various social value initiatives under our Lane End New Beginnings scheme, such as charity and community group donations and local labour provision, which all helps us give back to those communities in which we build.”
