HERE are the latest official statistics on the coronavirus cases in Warrington.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, a total of 1321 new cases were recorded in the town seven days leading up to October 16.

This demonstrates an infection rate of 630.9 cases among every 100,000 residents, which puts Warrington 60th for case rates in the UK.

This is an increase from 1138 infections or 543.5 per 100,000 people in the week leading up to October 9.

Data for the most recent four days (October 17-20) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

Of the 377 local areas in the UK, 306 (81 per cent) have seen a week-on-week rise in rates, 70 (19 per cent) have seen a fall and one is unchanged.

Blaenau Gwent in Wales has the highest rate in the UK, with 722 new cases in the seven days to October 16 - the equivalent of 1,031.1 per 100,000 people.

Bath and North East Somerset has the second-highest rate, up from 269.4 to 971.2, with 1,907 new cases.

Cheltenham in Gloucestershire has the third-highest rate, up from 150.8 to 954.8, with 1,108 new cases.

In the north west, Copeland tops the rate of infections with 737.8 cases per 100,000 people

As of yesterday, Wednesday, there were 36 patients in Warrington Hospital – including four in intensive care.

Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Covid-19 death toll stands at 541.

Since the start of the pandemic, 2,396 inpatients have been discharged from the Lovely Lane site after receiving treatment for the virus.
