THE opening times at Stockton Heath tip will be cut from the end of this month.

Warrington Borough Council says the recycling centre on Sandy Lane in the village will be changing its weekend and bank holiday opening time to 10am from October 30.

It currently opens at 8am.

A spokesman said: "This means that the centre will open from 10am to 4pm at weekends and on bank holidays, instead of opening at 8am.

"The decision to change the opening time is due to feedback received from residents living close to the recycling centre."

As reported earlier this year in the Warrington Guardian, residents at a retirement home in Stockton Heath have lobbied the council after being fed up with disturbances from the neighbouring tip.

The Brindley Court residents are tired of the noise, traffic, smell and rat problems that Stockton Heath community recycling centre brings.

They understand that they are ‘outnumbered’ and that the tip cannot be closed, but they asked for a later opening as they are regularly woken at 7am by trucks.

The centre’s autumn and winter hours (October to March) will be:

n Weekdays, 10am to 4pm

n Weekends and bank holidays, 10am to 4pm

All of Warrington’s community recycling centres are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
