TWO brothers from Stockton Heath are launching their own sock company to raise awareness of Down's syndrome.

The pair decided to start a sock company as every National Down's Syndrome Day it is custom to rock some bright socks, so they thought: “Why just do this for one day?”

The company is inspired by Ross Laing, who according to his brother Christian, is ‘funny’, ‘charismatic’, ‘social’, and ‘fun’.

The pair also wanted to create a ‘sustainable paid job’ for Ross.

Once this is achieved, they hope to create employment opportunities for more ‘stand out’ people with ‘unique’ and ‘varied’ abilities in Warrington.

Christian, 38, said: “For obvious reason, Ross has always struggled to find any work and has never had paid employment.

“The idea of creating Ross a job rather than finding him one has always been in the back of my head.

“Also, I wanted to spend more time with my little brother, so wanted to create something we could do together.”

Stand Out Sock’s tag line is, ‘Why fit in? When you are born to stand out’.

The pair hope that the bright and vibrant socks will bring attention and start conversations.

Christian added: “Once people are made aware of the company we hope to change attitudes and raise awareness of equal opportunities for disabled employees in the workplace.”

The brothers will also be donating 20 per cent of their profits to Scope – a charity that has a shared vision of equality in the community and supports disabled people finding work.

Christian and Ross added: “We are really excited to launch our new business & can’t wait to see Warrington 'stand out' in our socks.”

Stand Out Sock’s website will be launched this Sunday, October 3, at 6pm in light of National Down Syndrome awareness month.
