WARRINGTON North MP Charlotte Nichols has stepped down as Labour’s shadow minister for women and equalities.
The politician has made the decision purely for personal reasons – but it is understood that she would like a return to the party’s frontbench in the future.
Ms Nichols has been unavailable for comment today, Thursday.
She was elected to the seat in the 2019 General Election.
It came after Labour’s Helen Jones retired following 22 years as MP in Warrington North.
Ms Nichols is a member of the cross-party business, energy and industrial strategy committee, as well as co-chair of the nuclear energy all-party parliamentary group (APPG).
In a Facebook post yesterday, she said: “It is Nuclear Week in Parliament this week and, as co-chair of the APPG on Nuclear, I was delighted to meet Sellafield apprentices who are gaining paid work experience in highly-skilled engineering roles and gaining a degree at the same time.
“We can all be proud of these young people, and the work that UTC Warrington is doing to bring these sorts of opportunities to even more young people starting out their careers.”
