THE managers of a town centre bar are hosting an 80s night to raise funds for a charity close to their heart.

Sarah Whiteley, 22, lost her mum, Christine Whiteley, almost a year ago to breast cancer after a six year battle.

The manager of The Volstead on Bold Street, along with colleague Hannah Forshaw, decided to put on a charity night due to the potential and space the bar provides.

Sarah said: “Cancer Research UK was the obviously one for us as it's becoming so more prominent.

“We all know someone who has been diagnosed and if the money we raise can help someone get through what my mum went through then we know we are making a difference.”

The bar managers chose an 80’s night as their regulars enjoy that kind of music and with lockdown restrictions, there has been little opportunity to 'enjoy full music'.

Sarah added: “We haven't been able to dance or sing so an 80's night seemed like the perfect fit.”

There will be over 20 raffle prizes – varying from a bottle of wine, a voucher to a local beauty salon, local art prints as well as food vouchers.

There will also be a prize for the best dressed and the night will include a DJ, food, and drinks specials.

Sarah and Hannah also wanted to focus on including local business after the impact lockdown has had on them.

The event is taking place tomorrow night, Friday, and the free entry event will be open to everyone.
