FIREFIGHTERS dealt with a potentially dangerous incident involving hazardous materials yesterday evening, Wednesday.
The crew from Penketh Fire Station was dispatched to Farnworth Road in Penketh after receiving reports of a fire in the open.
On arrival at 7.22pm, they discovered that the blaze involved a number of bags labelled ‘hazardous waste’.
The waste was well alight when firefighters arrived on the scene.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used fog spray to extinguish the flames.
The Warrington Guardian has approached Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service for clarification on what the hazardous material was.
A tweet by Penketh Fire Station said: “Tonight we turned out to hazardous materials being set on fire at the side of a Warrington road.
“If you have any information about this, contact the police on 101.”
