ONE area of Warrington recorded more than 100 new cases of coronavirus over the past week.

Central Warrington had the highest number of new infections during the week up to July 17 as case rates on the whole continue to rise.

The period in question, which is the latest available, comes before so-called ‘Freedom Day’ on July 19, when all legal social contact restrictions were lifted.

Only Winwick and Burtonwood and Locking Stumps saw their infection rates fall, with each area down three and seven cases respectively.

Infection rates are published using Public Health England figures via an interactive map on the Government’s online coronavirus dashboard.

At the time of writing, the map displayed the number and rate of new cases in each area of Warrington in the seven days up to July 17.
