HERE are the latest coronavirus case figures for Warrington ahead of the start of ‘surge testing’ in the town.

Specially-trained testing teams from Warrington Borough Council will begin conducting door-to-door Covid tests from today, with all residents of addresses visited aged above 11 encouraged to take a PCR test.

Surge testing comes after the town was designated as an ‘enhanced Covid support package area’ in response to high Covid-19 infection rates, which have continued to rise in the past few weeks.

During the week up to July 4, which is the most recent period for which Public Health England data is available, 763 new virus cases were detected through lab or rapid lateral flow testing.

This demonstrates an infection rate of 363.3 cases per every 100,000 residents, which is the 55th highest rate in England compared with all other local authority areas.

Comparatively, the previous seven-day period up to June 27 saw 609 infections recorded at a rate of 290.
