GEORGE Williams' move to Warrington Wolves has been officially confirmed.

The England and Great Britain international half-back has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at The Halliwell Jones Stadium having left NRL side Canberra Raiders.

Rumours have been abound that Williams was Wire-bound since he was confirmed to have been released early from his deal in Australia.

Now, his move to the club is complete and he will wear the number 31 shirt - the same jersey Australian legend Andrew Johns wore during his short time at the club.

“He’s a competitive man and an exciting player who has achieved the highest honours in the game here in the English Super League.

"I’m looking for George to add value and apply pressure to our playing squad during the second half of this campaign."

Wire chairman Stuart Middleton admits bringing Williams to the club partway through the season was "extremely challenging."

He also thanked Williams' former club Wigan Warriors, who had first refusal on his signature but opted not to pursue a deal to bring him back to the DW Stadium

"We are delighted to have secured the services of a world class British half-back," Middleton said.

“Since George’s availability became known to us he became our number one recruitment target.

"However, bringing him in mid-way through this year proved extremely challenging with numerous complexities attached.

"Therefore, we are immensely delighted to finally be able to announce this signing to all our loyal supporters and partners.

“I’d like to place on record my thanks to Wigan Warriors for allowing George to join us despite having a first refusal agreement.”
