A WARRINGTON charity has received a £1,000 donation to support the work it is currently doing to develop its outdoor space.

David Wilson Homes donated the money to Making Space Warrington, an adult health and social care charity.

Making Space Warrington has been helping adults with care and support needs, and their carers, to lead independent and fulfilling lives for 35 years.

The Warrington-based accommodation has a shared garden area where residents are able to relax and enjoy the sunshine.

With the donation, the area will be reconstructed into a place for both residents and nature with bird feeders, nest boxes, and new furniture.

Natalie Bargery, fundraising coordinator at the charity, said: “We were absolutely thrilled to hear that our application had been successful.

‘‘The money will make such a difference to the people we support in the Academy and we know that they will benefit so much from a beautiful new garden.

“The pandemic has helped us all to value outdoor space and nature so much more, therefore, we want to do more with the garden area we have.

‘‘Tenants have suggested ideas for how they would like the garden to be improved, including, bird feeders and boxes, better furniture so they are comfier for longer outside and will have flowers and shrubs to tend to and look after.”

The service in Warrington has 22 brand new supported living apartments for rent in the historic Academy building on Bridge Street, Warrington.

The apartments provide homes for people looking to live independently with tailored and flexible care and support.

Throughout the pandemic the charity has had to make a number of changes and has been constantly adapting throughout the past year to keep staff, carers and individuals using the charity safe.

Natalie added: “The creativity, commitment, and care that staff and volunteers have shown has been inspiring.

‘‘Furthermore, the people we support have been supportive and understanding too as they have had to adapt to the many enforced changes.

‘‘Nevertheless, it was important we made changes to be able to continue to support people within the government guidelines.

‘‘Without such flexibility, we could not have, kept providing services and the people we support would have suffered.

‘‘We’re very proud of everyone associated with Making Space.”

Robert Holbrook, managing director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “As a leading developer, it is important that we support organisations and charities in our surrounding areas in order to leave a positive impact in the communities in which we build.

“Making Space is a fantastic initiative that has been consistently working with individuals throughout the pandemic and have been a crucial service in Warrington throughout so we are delighted to be able to support them.

“We are a huge ambassador for nature friendly gardens and have worked alongside the RSPB for many years now so we were thrilled to hear that the funding will go towards the gardens that both people and nature can enjoy.”
