MAXINE Peake has been spotted in Great Sankey with filming taking place for a new BBC drama.

The Forge Entertainment are working in Mossdale Close on behalf of the BBC on Rules of the Game.

It is a four-part series described as a 'thriller about sexual politics in the modern workplace'.

Maxine leads the cast as Sam, a hard-headed manager at a family run business in the north west.

Filming took place over the weekend and is expected to continue this afternoon, Monday - but the production team have asked people not to gather at the set due to Covid-19 procedures in place.

Warrington Guardian:

A Mossdale Close resident said: "It was very exciting on the first day, we couldn't beleive the amount of equipment and people involved in filming just a few scenes.

"I think we are all looking forward to seeing our street on the drama when it's aired."

Maxine Peake is best known for appearing in the likes of Shameless, The Theory of Everything, Funny Cow and Black Mirror.

And the 46-year-old has been linked with Warrington a number of times before.

She appeared on our Facebook Live feed during a Labour rally at Parr Hall in 2017 and last year she joined the 'Local Legends' project led by Warrington's Not Too Tame Theatre Company to help raise money for charity.
