A SUSPECT has been arrested and charged after a 14-year-old boy was assaulted with a ‘blunt weapon’ in a play area.

The teen was attacked in the Oakwood Play Area, off Admirals Road in Birchwood, at around 7.30pm on Sunday, June 20.

He was allegedly assaulted by two men with what was believed to be a baseball bat, before the pair fled the scene.

Two suspects, aged 20, were located by police a short time later and arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and assault.

Rio Fennel, of Payne Close in Hood Manor, has since been charged with the former offence and has been released on bail ahead of an appearance before Warrington Magistrates Court next month.

Meanwhile, the other man has been released under investigation by Cheshire Police.
