A KEEN runner inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore has completed a monumental challenge in support of Warrington’s NHS heroes.

Will Oram conquered a 50-mile run across the Yorkshire Pennines as part of an ultra-marathon to raise money for Warrington and Halton Hospitals’ Charity.

The fixed income sales trader from Stockton Heath says he was greatly inspired by Captain Tom’s efforts in raising more than £32million for the NHS last year.

So much so that he decided to do his bit by taking part in the Pennine Barrier Ultra, which fuses 2,593m of ascent with some of the finest trails in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

“I wanted to do my bit for the hospital that will undoubtedly be serving me and my family for years to come,” Will said.

“In fact, with one trip to A&E under our belt and several trips to the maternity unit for scans on our upcoming little one, they already have.

“The event went well, but it was far hillier than I expected – although I am not sure why that surprised me as I knew the route before I ran it.

“But I thoroughly enjoyed it, and we were really lucky with the weather. It was a really well-run event.”

Will began training in January and completed 95 training runs in total, logging more than 132 hours and a staggering 964 miles in preparation for the big day.

He completed the event in 10 hours and 10 minutes.

To date, Will has managed to raise more than £1,100 through his JustGiving page, smashing his original target of £500.

All of the money raised from the event will directly benefit patients at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Helen Higginson, fundraising manager of WHH Charity, added: “We are completely awestruck by the dedication and commitment Will has shown by taking on this huge challenge.

“Not to mention, we are incredibly grateful that he chose our hospitals to benefit from his fundraising. Thank you and well done Will.”
