WARRINGTON hospice staff will be taking part in an annual fundraising event next month.

The annual Dragon Boat Race will return for 2021 and will feature a team made up of staff members from St. Rocco’s Hospice.

The boat race consists of 12 teams of up to 20 rowers taking to the waters at the Warrington Rowing Club as they compete to be crowned the Kings and Queens of the Dragons.

A team made up of Warrington Borough Council and other companies, The Mighty Loaders, have won for the past three years but this year they will face tough competition from St. Rocco’s and many other local businesses.

Dragon Boat Racing has established itself as one of the country’s favourite mass participation water sports.

Nicola Henshaw, senior relationships fundraiser at the hospice, said: “The Dragon Boat Race is one of our most popular events and we are thrilled to not only be able to bring it back this year but to also take part.

“We are of course hoping to bring home the trophy but the important thing is we all have fun on the day and raise as much money as possible for patient care here at the hospice.

‘‘We hope our local community will get behind our ‘Rocco’s Rowers’ and make this our most successful year yet.”

St. Rocco’s, in Bewsey, would also like to say a huge thank you to everybody at Dragon Boat Events who have been a ‘wonderful support’ to them over the years and have helped to make every Dragon Boat Race a success.
