A FORMER Post Office is set to be converted into flats.

Warrington Borough Council has granted planning permission for the branch on Folly Lane in Bewsey to be turned into an 11-bedroom house in multiple occupation.

This Post Office has since moved to the Texaco petrol station on Lovely Lane.

Submission documents stated: “The site is two terraced houses that have been knocked into one.

“The building was utilised as a Post Office with residential use attached until the applicants couldn’t cope with running the Post Office so retired, and the Post Office is now further down the road on Lovely Lane at the Texaco garage.

“The applicants still live at the premises, but their current situation means they need to downsize and look for a dwelling to cope with their needs – so they are applying for the change of use to a HMO, as the dwelling is too large to market as one.

“The site is in an area which requires affordable accommodation for a variety of tenants, and thus the applicants are looking to convert this large terraced dwelling into one-bedroom units with communal facilities.”

One resident had objected to the proposals over potential anti-social behaviour and parking issues, a concern which was also raised by WBC’s transport department.

But the council gave its consent for the scheme on Friday, June 4.
