LAND in the town centre earmarked for an eight-storey apartment block has been put up for sale.

The site on Stanley Street, bordering Wilson Patten Street and the former BT telephone exchange building, was granted planning permission for a development of 39 new flats by Warrington Borough Council in March this year.

This will comprise of three three-bedroom, 11 two-bedroom and 25 one-bedroom apartments, plus a commercial unit at the ground floor.

Now the plot, which is currently used as a car park, has been brought to the market by Centre Park-based estate agents Morgan Williams Commercial LLP.

A listing on Rightmove describes the location as being ‘perfect for a potential student village development’.

Part of the University of Chester’s new town centre campus – which is due to open in September – will be located only a stone’s throw away at Mersey Bank House on Barbauld Street, as well as in Time Square.

The listing adds: “We are delighted to offer for sale a rare multi-unit freehold residential development site in the well-regarded and fast growing north west town of Warrington.

“Outline planning has only recently been approved for an eight-storey residential block, including a single ground floor commercial unit that could be suitable for retail purposes in this emerging, well-regarded residential area that is close to the Cultural Quarter.

“The location is perfect for a potential student village development or for the private rented sector as at the top of the road is Bank Quay Station, which can link directly with London Euston in less than two hours.

“The corridor directly opposite that links Bridge Foot with Bank Quay Station is earmarked for future residential development.

“This and the University of Chester’s acquisition of nearby Mersey Bank House means the immediate vicinity is set for good things in the future.”
