PART of an air rifle was discovered at a beauty spot this morning after men were spotted with a firearm.

Shortly after 6.30pm yesterday, Sunday, a police community support officer on patrol in the Birchwood area was approached by a member of the public.

He reported that he had seen three men running along a footpath near to Keyes Close while in possession of what was believed to be an imitation firearm or a BB gun.

Officers carried out a search of the area, but found no trace of the trio.

The barrel of an air rifle was then discovered at nearby Risley Moss this morning, Monday.

And Cheshire Police believe that this could be part of the same weapon.

Enquiries into the incident and subsequent discovery are ongoing.

A force spokesman said: “A PCSO received this information from a member of the public whilst out on patrol at around 6.40pm yesterday, Sunday.

“This member of the public saw the three males on a segregated footpath in Birchwood that leads onto Birchwood Forest Park or Risley Moss.

“The barrel end of an air rifle was found at Risley Moss this morning, Monday.

“It is believed that the air rifle could be what the member of the public saw.

“Enquiries in relation to this are ongoing.

“Anyone with any information or footage that may help the enquiries is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101.”
