Refurbishments at Penketh Library will create a more vibrant, flexible space for the community to enjoy thanks to a share of a £1million investment.

Plans for the building on Honiton Way are moving forward following consultation with residents and members of The Friends of Penketh Library on what improvements should be made.

Warrington Borough Council will be looking for a contractor to carry out the work, which will cost an estimated £104,000 and is hoped will breathe new life into the building.

There will be a new community room in memory of Jane Forshaw, founder and former chairperson of The Friends of Penketh Library, and new furniture and fittings to make the space more accessible for community use.

External repairs will be carried out on window sills, facias and guttering and inside will be given a new coat of paint as well as the installation of upgraded toilet facilities.

Phil Forshaw, from The Friends of Penketh Library, said: “We are delighted that our much-loved Penketh Library is being refurbished and modernised and it will be of great benefit to our local community.”

Emma Hutchinson, managing director of Live Wire, said: “It is fantastic news that the first steps are being taken towards the refurbishment and modernisation of Penketh Library, which plays such an important role in the local community.

“It is particularly fitting that the work will include a tribute to Jane Forshaw, who dedicated so much of her time to the library and is much missed.

“We look forward to beginning these exciting plans.”

The refurbishment will be another step forward in providing much-needed visible improvements to the Honiton Way area, with a master plan for the area remaining a long term ambition.
