A PRIMARY school is set to work with other educational establishments across the country in order to improve pupils’ behaviour.

Evelyn Street Primary School, in Sankey Bridges, has been selected by the Government as one of 22 sites in the UK to lead the Department for Education’s £10million Behaviour Hubs programme.

The Warrington Primary Academy Trust, which runs the school, is one of two trusts which will also be taking part in the scheme.

Chief executive Louise Smith said: “We are delighted and proud that Evelyn Street Primary School has been selected as a lead school for this important project.

“A positive culture of behaviour is all part of life in Evelyn Street and across the schools in our trust, and we’re looking forward to working with other schools to support them to develop their behaviour management approaches.”

Warrington Borough Council’s director of education Paula Worthington added: “This is great news for Evelyn Street and for Warrington.

“We are keen that all of our schools are safe and calm places which are conducive to learning, provide support for pupils’ health and wellbeing and which are inclusive and welcoming to all.

“I look forward to seeing how the hub develops.”

Training through the hubs for the first group of participating schools will begin later this term.

Tom Bennett, the Department for Education’s lead behaviour adviser, said: “The hubs project is designed to start reasonably modestly, build a model that works and then expand into a size and shape that supports more schools that need it.

“This has the capacity to make a real and substantial difference to the lives of futures of many thousands of children and families and I cannot wait to see it develop.”
