TRAINS from Warrington Bank Quay have been disrupted this morning following the theft of signalling cables.

Signal failures were first reported on the railway line between Bank Quay Station and Earlestown at around 5.30am today, Tuesday.

The route is currently blocked as a result, with issues expected to continue until around midday.

Services calling at the two stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes, with bus replacements operating between Manchester Victoria and Chester via Warrington Bank Quay.

Trains running between Bank Quay Station and Wigan North Western are also experiencing delays of up to 20 minutes.

The faults are as a result of the reported theft of signalling cables on the West Coast Mainline between Warrington and Wigan overnight.
