WOOLSTON Rovers have given out their first ever Chairman’s Award – and there could be no better recipient.

Under 11s player Warren Robinson captured hearts all over the town and beyond with his efforts in running 10km every day for 10 continuous days last month.

Having set out to raise £300 for Cancer Research UK and to buy his team some kit, his final total was almost 10 times that amount – a shade over £2,000.

Now, the 11-year-old’s efforts have been recognised by his club – even if it did catch him off guard.

“I am really proud of Warren and what he has achieved,” said dad Matt, who is also Woolston’s under 11s head coach.

“Completing something like this would be a challenge for anybody, but at 11 years old to complete this in the way he did, without any complaints, was really good to see.

“It was a really nice touch for the club to present him with the very first Chairman’s Award, which was completely unexpected and took him by surprise.”

In presenting him with the award, Rovers chairman Steve Moore had nothing but praise for Warren and his “unbelievable achievement.”

“Warren has made his family and Woolston Rovers Rugby League Club proud. He is the first ever winner of this award and it is fully deserved,” he said.

“All we hear about is the bad things youngsters are doing and not enough of these types of ‘good news’ stories.

“We need to congratulate this amazing young man on his unbelievable achievement.”

Junior chairman Peter Bowden added: “It is important as a club for achievements like this to be recognised and Warren thoroughly deserves the praise that he has received for such a great effort.”

Evelyn Street Primary School pupil Warren was inspired to attempt this gruelling challenge by rugby league legend Kevin Sinfield, who completed seven marathons in as many days to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association in honour of his former Leeds Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow.

He was even joined on one of his runs by Warrington Wolves forward Ellis Robson, who helped him to his best 10km time of around 57 minutes.
