ACCORDING to myth and folklore, storks are said to deliver beautiful, bouncing babies to eager and expectant parents.

But for one entrepreneurial mum the white bird with long legs has brought a new business created during lockdown.

Busy mum-of-two Danielle Mills from Appleton launched Along Came A Stork last month, offering bespoke baby gifts delivered directly to new parents.

The range of baby clothes and accessories are classic and neutral with Danielle shying away from the more garish and colourful palettes often used for children.

The former primary school teacher and her husband Alex welcomed their second child Eliza during the first week of lockdown last year and after being overwhelmed by visitors wanting to meet their first baby Zach when he was born in 2018, Covid-19 restrictions meant their newest arrival was introduced to family and friends virtually.

Danielle said: “When Zach was born I really struggled to find clothes that I liked and that were affordable because I thought the prints were too garish and bold.

“I wanted soft and neutral colours that could be passed down to siblings in the future, whether they were a boy or a girl, and I wanted something more reasonably priced than the bigger named companies were offering.”

The family received cards and gifts for Eliza through the post, which sparked the idea for Along Came A Stork, where baby gifts can be ordered and personalised online and sent straight to the recipient.

Danielle, who now has more than 3,000 followers on Instagram, said: “I’m really enjoying getting back to work although it doesn’t actually feel like work.

“I was very reluctant to go back after having Eliza and I knew that my wages would simply be paying for the children’s childcare.

“Running a business from home means I can spend time with the children and earn money at the same time.

“I started planning the business in August last year and created personalised items for friends and family members who wanted gifts for newborn babies and toddlers and slowly word has got out.

“I’m now receiving orders every day, which is fantastic.”
