A SUSPECT who was arrested in the Netherlands in connection with a shooting in Orford has been extradited back to the UK.

Jamie Rothwell was detained by police in a taxi in Amsterdam in December last year on a European arrest warrant.

He was wanted by Cheshire Police’s serious and organised crime unit over a shooting on Poplars Avenue in April last year.

The 55-year-old victim suffered ‘life changing’ injuries after being blasted in the leg by a gunman posing as a pizza delivery driver.

And the 34-year-old, of Salford, was returned to returned to the country yesterday, Thursday, following the successful conclusion of extradition proceedings.

Rothwell appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court today, Friday, after being charged with two county of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm and conspiracy to possess firearms and ammunition with intent to endanger life.

He also faces charges of conspiracy to supply cocaine, heroin and ketamine as well as possession of criminal property in the Greater Manchester area.

And he will now be brought before Liverpool Crown Court next month, and has been remanded into custody until that date.

A force spokesman said: “A 34-year-old man from Salford who was arrested in the Netherlands has been extradited to the UK.

“Jamie Rothwell was brought back to Cheshire by the National Extradition Unit on Thursday, March 11.

“He appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court the following day after being charged with firearm and drug offences.

“Rothwell was arrested on December 14 2020 as he travelled in a taxi in Amsterdam after Cheshire Police’s serious and organised crime unit obtained a European arrest warrant.

“Detectives worked with the National Crime Agency, the North West Regional and Organised Crime Unit and Dutch partners along with assistance from the Crown Prosecution Service to secure the arrest and his subsequent extradition.

“Rothwell has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday, April 9.”
