FUNDS to enhance mental health services at a north west children’s hospital have been boosted thanks to a Warrington employer.

Great Sankey-based Amazon has donated £1,000 to improve the lives of young patients at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

The donation will go towards supporting the hospital’s Seven in 10 Children’s Mental Health Appeal, which aims to raise £3million to create the best possible child friendly environment.

It will also support the enhancements of inpatient and community mental health services at the hospital and will allow more children to access the treatment they need at the time.

Tony Carr, site leader at Amazon in Warrington, said: “We are pleased to make this donation to Alder Hey Children’s Charity.

“We hope it adds to the brilliant work the staff and volunteers do to support young people.”

Ellie Freestone, corporate fundraiser from Alder Hey Children’s Charity, added: “On behalf of everyone here at Alder Hey, we would like to thank Tony and the Amazon team for their donation.

“Alder Hey Charity continues to support the NHS through the Covid crisis and beyond, as the hospital cares for children’s and young people’s physical and mental wellbeing.

“It is through this type of donation that we can create the facilities that our most vulnerable patients need and truly deserve.”

The donation to Alder Hey Children’s Charity was part of the ‘Amazon in the Community’ programme, whereby the company supports the communities around its UK operating locations.

Community donations are just one way in which Amazon is supporting people during the pandemic, as it is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses.

It is also teaming up with charity partner Magic breakfast and delivering more than 2million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
