MAJOR roadworks will begin in south Warrington on Monday evening.

Resurfacing work will take place at night for the next six weeks on the A56 Stockport Road/Camsley Lane, from a point west of Lymm Road to Thelwall Viaduct.

The road will be closed, between 7pm and 1am to undertake all the road resurfacing works safely, according to Warrington Borough Council.

All roads will be fully open to traffic outside these times.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Vehicular access will be under the control of the contractor on site.

Vehicles parked on the road, verge or footway obstructing the works may be removed.

The signed diversion route will be Elm Tree Road, Cherry Lane, A50 Cliff Lane, A50 Knutsford Road and vice versa.

Information on bus services will be posted at stops prior to the commencement of the works.

The scheme will include works to improve the section of footway along the south side of Stockport Road/Camsley Lane.

A spokesman said: "Cones, barriers and signs are there for a reason - to protect our workers from danger and to keep the public safe. We urge drivers to pay close attention to safety when driving near roadworks."
