AFTER two years of co-captaincy, Warrington Wolves will have a single leader for the 2021 season.

The club have confirmed that Jack Hughes will take the captaincy outright for the new campaign having shared it with Chris Hill for the past two seasons.

Together, they led The Wire to a Challenge Cup title in 2019, lifting the trophy together at Wembley after the memorable win over St Helens.

It marks the end of five seasons as captain for Hill, who took on the role in 2016 but has now decided to step down in order to focus on his own performances.

It now leaves 29-year-old second rower Hughes, who skippered the England Lions team on their tour of Papua New Guinea in 2018, as the appointed man.

"It’s a massive honour and something I’m really proud of.

"Obviously, I understand the weight and responsibility that comes with the role and it’s something I’ll take extremely seriously.

"I’ll uphold the highest of standards at all times – any leadership role would require that – but I’m extremely proud.”
