A NEW restaurant could be set to open on Palmyra Square.

Warrington Borough Council has received an application for planning permission to the ground floor of DATS Recruitment on Springfield Street into a vegan and plant-based eatery.

But the menu will also include meat and fish dishes.

The first floor would remain in use as an office space under the proposals from applicant XOX Pubs Ltd.

Meanwhile, the restaurant – which hopes to open in late spring or early summer – would boast an outdoor dining area with a terrace.

Up to 20 jobs could be created as a result.

Submission documents stated: “The applicant is looking to rework the internal space of the current office to bring a new, vibrant brand of dining experience into the Cultural Quarter of Warrington.

“XOX Pubs Ltd’s concept is to bring a new vegan and plant-based restaurant to Warrington’s Palmyra Square.

“There will be the option for provide both fish and meat dishes, alongside the main focus of vegan, healthy foods – with two separate kitchens allowing the food production principles to be maintained.

“It is the intention of the applicant to look to hopefully open the restaurant in late spring or early summer, but of course this will be based on the Government’s position with regards to current Covid-19 restrictions.

“The commitment of the applicant during the Covid-19 pandemic to move forward with a new restaurant project is to be commended, and will bring a new brand of eatery to Palmyra Square – which has seen extensive investment in this sector over the last 10 years.

“Palmyra Square is located in the Cultural Quarter of Warrington, and in our eyes is the jewel in the crown to Warrington town centre.

“When the world gets back to a better place following the pandemic, this area of Warrington with its arts and theatre background can look to trigger a bounce back for the town’s economy.

“The introduction of a new restaurant, offering a fresh, different brand of food, can only be a positive for the town centre.”
