THESE are the areas of Warrington which have the highest recorded coronavirus infection rates over the past week.

Thanks to an interactive map published on the Government’s online coronavirus dashboard, we can see the number of cases by area and each area’s rate of infection.

The map is divided into ‘middle layer super output areas’, which is a system used by the Office for National Statistics that is slightly larger than a postcode area.

The data incorporated covers a seven-day period and has been sourced from Public Health England, based on pillars one and two of the Government's testing programme.

At the time of writing, the map displayed the number and rate of new cases in each area of Warrington in the seven days up to January 9.

Data for the most recent period is excluded as it is incomplete, does not reflect the true number of cases and is likely to be revised.

According to the map, Callands and Old Hall was the area of Warrington with the highest number of new Covid-19 cases after 109 people tested positive.

This was followed by Appleton Thorn, Stretton and Walton (91), Kingswood and Whittle Hall (86) and Houghton Green and Fearnhead (85).
