A MUM-OF-THREE has written a children’s book explaining why we all have to wear masks during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Amanda Price, 41, was inspired by her three-year-old son’s curiosity as well as her ten-year-old son’s fear, after seeing a lot in the media about Covid deaths.
The book, which has been released for sale on Amazon, has germ characters that help explain the importance of masks to children in an entertaining way.
Amanda, from Latchford, said about her youngest son: “He’s going through that really funny stage where you question everything and he was asking me a lot like ‘why are they wearing masks?’ and that’s what made me think about writing it.
“It’s quite scary for them I think to know there’s something is going around that they might catch that might make them really poorly.”
Concerning the impact of the pandemic on children, Amanda said: “They’re not able to exercise as much as they used to or spend as much time with their friends and in school they can’t interact with other classes or play football, so I think it’s having a massive impact on the children.
“It’s a massive change as well and I think a lot of children don’t understand why it’s happening.”
The book questions what people are hiding behind their masks, making funny suggestions and encouraging children to use their imagination to make this big change in society a bit less scary.
It also has some pages at the back where readers can colour in the characters, giving them an activity to do while bored and stuck indoors.
The illustrations for the book were drawn by Amanda’s friend, Katie Duke, who has an artistic family background and creative flair, with experience in marketing, web-design and up-cycling products.
Katie, 41 from Wirral, has four nieces and two nephews who also have worries about the pandemic.
She said: “It’s really scary for them at the moment and this is just a positive message with all the negativity and a bit of fun for them as well to reassure them a little bit.
“It’s been a good experience and I hope the kids like it, that’s the main thing.”
