CHESHIRE Police have begun the rollout of security measures aiming to tackle burglaries in the Bewsey and Whitecross ward.

Officers have been visiting homes in the area since the start of this week providing free security checks.

Door and window locks, CCTV door bells and alarms will be offered if needed.

Inspector Ruth Atherton, who is leading the project, said: “Over the next few months, we will be visiting residents directly at their homes to discuss their security.

“If you are interested in getting involved then we ask you to fill in our survey and get in touch with us either by phone or email.

“This really is a fantastic opportunity which we hope will drive down crime in the area, and deter thieves from targeting residents here.”

The scheme has been bankrolled by a £550,000 grant from the Cheshire police and crime commssioner's Safer Streets Fund.

PCC David Keane added: "This is a big step forward to make Bewsey and Whitecross safer for all its residents and help protect their homes from offenders.

"It is also important for officers to involve residents in the project and find out what issues are impacting the area to help make a difference to the community."

John Dwyer, Conservative candidate for the PCC role in May's elections, added: “I am delighted that the Commissioner has now started to spend the generous £550,000 he was given by the Home Office to address crime and safer streets issues in the Bewsey and Whitecross area of Warrington.”
