A RUNNER is on the verge of completing a mammoth 500-mile mission in memory of her grandma.

Holly Turner, from Woolston, is embarking on a year-long running challenge to raise funds for Dementia UK.

Her nan Betty Brannan died aged 87 last year after battling the condition.

Warrington Guardian:

Since the start of 2020, the 38-year-old has been lacing up her trainers and jogging in a Proclaimers-inspired fundraiser – and Holly is now only around 20 miles away from her target, and has received hundreds of pounds in donations.

Proud friend Vicky Schofield said: “Holly wanted to set herself a challenge in dedication of her gorgeous nanna, known affectionately to her grandchildren as Little Nanna.

“She decided to embark on an incredible 500-mile running challenge – her take on the Proclaimers’ song I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) – which in fact is a song that drives her mad.

“Holly only started running three years ago and has never run more than 10km, but she now has to run almost 10 miles every single week of the year

“Since January 1, she has kept this going come rain or shine – as well as during holidays and when she has been feeling under the weather.

“As we reach the much colder and darker days and with Covid-19 restrictions making life more of a struggle for everyone, Holly could really do with a boost and a big push of support and to know that her friends and family are so, so incredibly proud of what she is doing

“We know her Nanna loved her so much, and would be so proud of her too – we are all completely in awe of her determination and dedication to such a special cause and think she is amazing.

“Holly is the kindest, most selfless person I know.”
