A GROUP of parish councils will be explaining their alternative to the controversial local plan in Warrington on Tuesday night.

The South Warrington Parish Councils Local Plan Group is holding a Zoom Webinar to tell the public about its ‘New Plan for a Changing World.’

The group consists of six parish councils who joined forces to support residents in their opposition to the proposals put forward by Warrington Council for the future development of the town.

The controversial plan is currently on hold due to coronavirus and will not be considered until the new year.

Chairman of the Group Cllr Cliff Taylor sais:  “We have prepared a report which outlines the reasons for our stance and suggests possible alternative routes the Council could take.

"We welcome the decision by the Council to delay the preparation of the Local Plan which provides an opportunity to develop a new version which would be sound. It would take into account recent events such as the economic effects of Covid-19, the uncertainty over Brexit and an increasing concern by the public about climate change.

"We argue that a change of course now would have advantages for the whole of Warrington in terms of developing the Town Centre, reducing inequality and tackling environmental issues.

"On Tuesday at 6.30pm we will be holding a Zoom meeting to set out our views to the Public and anyone is invited to join us.

"We will show a ten-minute video and then hold a discussion during which members of our Group will answer questions on our proposals."
