THROUGHOUT this year we have been remembering what happened in Warrington during the Second World War.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the conflict.

And reader Eric Marshall has sent us this brilliant picture of a VE Day street party to mark the end of the war in May 1945.

It shows residents in Pierpoint Street in Bewsey heading outdoors for a party.

Bank Park and the Town Hall lawn were the focus of celebrations on VE Day itself with fireworks and dancing to bands in the evening and similar events at Victoria Park and Orford Park.

Street parties were held around the town with residents coming together to organise the events.

Walton Gardens was also reopened to the public while rugby returned to Wilderspool Stadium as well.

And Warrington Walking Day took place after a five-year lapse.
