A BUDDING motorsport enthusiast has competed in her first full go-karting race weekend aged just 12.

Daniella Sutton travelled from Warrington to Dorset, competing with the Daniel Ricciardo Series in her DRS 100 kart.

Step-mum Rachel, from Great Sankey, recently married Daniella's dad Daniel in one of the borough’s first post-lockdown church weddings in July.

Talking about Daniella's love for racing, Rachel said: "She started go-karting aged seven, predominantly indoors, and travelled to a variety of UK indoor tracks to drive and compete, winning several podiums in competition.

"Last year we decided to take the leap to help her progress in the world of motorsport and bought her her own DRS 100 kart to compete in the Daniel Ricciardo Series, backed by Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo.

Warrington Guardian:

"Daniella has been testing with them when possible and when she finally turned 12 was eligible to compete.

"Last weekend we travelled from Warrington to Clay Pigeon Raceway in Dorset for her first full race weekend, with the help of Central Self Drive, a van hire company who support us with transport, and Praga Karting, who let us store the kart with them.

"Daniella competed as a novice driver in a field of 21 drivers, with four other novice and the others full licence holders.

"After testing, qualifying, heats and the final she was placed 15th!

"We were delighted and all the family are very proud.

"We hope to see her progress this season and into next year - watch out F1 drivers!"
