A ROOFTOP solar canopy could be installed on Time Square car park as part of plans to make the borough more eco-friendly.
The site – which is part of the council’s flagship £142.5 million town centre regeneration scheme – has 60 electric charging stations, which are free for the public to use.
But the Labour-run authority is considering making additions to it.
A spokesman said: “Our new Time Square multi-storey car park has 60 electric vehicle charging stations, which are free for the public to use.
“We have made road layout changes to give bus and cycle routes priority and we have a central bus terminal located in the town centre.
“Looking to the future, we are awaiting the Government’s response to our full electric town bus bid.
“We are also considering the installation of a rooftop solar canopy on Time Square car park and other solar options for the remaining buildings in Time Square.”
