THERE are currently 15 patients being cared for at Warrington and Halton hospitals who have tested positive for coronavirus.

This figure, confirmed by the Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has increased from just three patients the week before.

Of the 15 patients, two have been moved to ICU.

The sharp increase comes as Warrington remains in the top 10 highest areas in England for coronavirus cases.

To date, the trust has tested 21,434 people, of which 1,277 have tested positive.

In its latest Covid-19 briefing issued today, Thursday, the trust announced that since the pandemic began it has discharged 413 patients.

Sadly, 139 have died.

Meanwhile, total of 1,618 people attended the emergency department during the last seven days, with the average daily attendance being calculated as 231.
