A CARE home in Great Sankey has won a prestigious industry award for the best food, nutrition and dining experience.

Whittle Hall scooped the title at the Care Home Awards 2020, which were held virtually and presented by BBC television presenter, Alan Dedicoat.

The award was based on a study which looked into whether an activity before a mealtime could impact on the health and well being of people living with dementia.

"This is absolutely amazing news," said Deborah Payne, home manager.

"We couldn't be more delighted.

"The findings of the study were quite exciting and residents who took part saw a significant benefit in weight gain, improvement of motor skills and socialisation.

"This study is unique, nothing like it has ever been done before."

Jeanne Davies, managing director of L&M Healthcare which owns and operate Whittle Hall, added: "Plans are now in place to roll this study out across all L&M Healthcare homes.

"I am so proud of the what this team achieved.

"Not only has it won this award, it also came second in the British Journal of Nursing Awards and is a finalist at the Royal College of Nursing Awards winners to be announced shortly."
