SIX Warrington Wolves players have been told to stand down after the RFL conducted track and trace analysis on Sunday's game against Wakefield.

However, The Wire have confirmed they are willing to fulfill Friday's fixture against Hull FC, which will go ahead as scheduled.

The club said they were willing to "put self-interest aside" and face the Black and Whites "for the betterment of the competition."

The six identified following a positive Covid-19 test for a Wakefield Trinity player that featured against The Wire will now have to isolate for 14 days, meaning they will also miss the game against Castleford Tigers next Thursday.

All of Warrington's players and coaches returned negative Covid tests earlier this week but another round of testing will now take place.

Wakefield's game against Leeds tomorrow has been postponed, with the Salford vs Castleford game moving to an 8.15pm kick off to take its place in the schedule.

Friday's schedule is unaffected, with Warrington vs Hull FC kicking off at 8.15 after Huddersfield v St Helens at 6pm.

“In what are unprecedented and uniquely challenging circumstances for the sport, we should first recognise the importance of the health and wellbeing of the players and other staff, and their families, at the clubs who have been affected," RFL chief regulatory officer Karen Moorhouse said.

“Again, we have been forced as a sport to show our ability to move quickly to ensure we still have a programme of four attractive fixtures in the Betfred Super League – and again, we are grateful to the flexibility of the clubs involved, and of our broadcast partners, in agreeing to these changes at such short notice.”
