THE Eat Out to Help Out scheme may be coming to an end this month.

But a Cultural Quarter duo are keeping it going – out of their own pocket – throughout the whole of September as a thank you to all customers who have supported them or are planning to visit since the lockdown was relaxed.

Charles Dobosz and Adam Smith run The Grill on the Square, Las Ramblas Wine and Tapas, San Lorenzo Italian, Charlie’s Cicchetti Bar, The Terrace Gin and Cigar Bar and The Treasury Private Dining and the deal is available at all of the Palmyra Square venues.

The same offer applies – 50 per cent off food and soft drinks, up to £10 per person, all day from Monday to Wednesday.

But unlike in August where the restaurants and bars could claim the money back from the government, Charles and Adam will be taking the financial hit themselves.

Jen Lawless, from Grill on the Square, said: "It is to say thank you to their guests for all their support and to allow guests who were unable to make a reservation for the government's ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ during August.

"They look forward to welcoming you at their family of venues on Palmyra Square.

Warrington Guardian:

"This is in addition to the government's VAT reduction from 20 per cent to five per cent being fully deducted from customers' bills until January."

It comes as the Treasury has confirmed that the Eat Out to Help Out scheme will not be extended into September amid calls from small traders to keep it going.

A Treasury spokesman told Birmingham Live: "Part of this popularity is precisely because it is a time-limited scheme – this reminds and encourages people to safely return to going out."
